CrossFit Opens

In the CF world, The CrossFit Games are a pretty big deal. Its not what 95% of us are doing CF for,  but it is amazing to watch the level of fitness these top competing athletes have. The road to the Games is long and starts with the opens. The opens is five weeks long. Anyone can compete, and if you are in the top percent you move on to the regional stage. Coach Dan made it to the games in 2013 as a 40-44 year old master!!! And Coach Trevor will start his journey to Cali as part of the CFM team this year!! It was, to say the least, an absolutely amazing experience for us all!! The journey was long and he worked hours a day to reach his goal. Here was a guy that a year before couldn’t do an overhead squat because of mobility issues and then first WOD of The Games has to do a bunch of them at a heavy (for him ) weight.

Coming from a competitive box like CFM, who has years of qualifying teams and athletes,  the opens season is a very special time for us. Brings back so many great memories. There is excitement in the air and it seems to challenge us all, beginner as well as veteran. We will be doing the opens WODs here too! Its a great test to see where you stand. And like we encourage you everyday to write your weights and wods down so you have a reference point, so you can see how far you have come, we would tell you to do the same with these work outs.  The opens are a great way to gage progress from year to year.

Registration for the Open begins Jan. 12, 2017.

The Open is the first stage of the CrossFit Games season and the largest community event of the year. Every year, hundreds of thousands of athletes come together to compete in the worldwide, online competition.

Anyone aged 14 or older can compete in the Open. All you have to do is sign up at Games.CrossFit.com and log your score each week. Workouts are released on Thursdays at 5 p.m. PT, and athletes have four days to complete the workout for the week and submit their score. Scores are due before 5 p.m. PT the following Monday. Complete the workouts at a CrossFit affiliate with a judge, or film your effort from anywhere in the world and submit a link as proof.

Since 2015, the Open has offered a scaled option in addition to the prescribed workout. This option makes the all-inclusive event even more accessible to the masses.

At the end of five weeks, the fittest move on to the next stages of competition: The Regionals and The Online Qualifier.
